Resilience

"Resilience" - We all want it. We are told we need it. If we don't have it we will get hurt. But what exactly is it? And what can we do to prepare ourselves for more upheavals in the years ahead?

  • We all want it. We are told we need it. If we don’t have it we will get hurt. But what exactly is it?
  • How come some people are able to bounce back after a tragedy while others can’t?
  • And what can we do to prepare ourselves for more upheavals in the years ahead?

It turns out that resilience is not about armoring ourselves and protecting ourselves from assault. It’s actually the opposite.

Being able to meet the highs and lows of life, turns out to be a key factor.

When things get uncomfortable, it’s all too easy to turn away from the upset and find a way to soothe ourselves or numb the feelings. Some of us may have had early childhood experiences and role models that emphasized or modeled this, or over protective parents who didn’t allow us to face difficult or hurtful situations.

The following approaches will build your ability to be resilient over time. Follow the links below for more.

I was surprised at how many posts there are here that support being resilient. Until I realized that the essence of Find Your Middle Ground and living life from the center of our being, is all about being mindful, building resilience, and finding inner peace.

Remember we are all in this together, and you are not alone. May we all face life’s challenges with awareness and hope for the future.

Namaste

Your usual sound advice, with which Rudyard Kipling would no doubt agree. Lovely serene portrait photograph.

It has taken me a long time to follow the advice you offer – to embrace the difficulty, let it move through you, then let it go. It was not an intuitive way to address difficult situations but it seems to offer more than trying to push difficulty to the side. Thank you for this reminder as always.

Resilience is a wonderful partner to mindfulness. The what is, is. So tell yourself the best story you can! “You are brave. You are strong. You can do this!”
