Inspiration – Door to the Unknown

“In the universe, there are things that are known, and things that are unknown, and in between them. There are doors”. ~ William Blake

These words from William Blake made me pause today. It reminded me of a poem I wrote with Ali Grimshaw’s writing circle.

The door to the unknown 
opens and I walk through.
How long did it take 
to find myself here?
Was it yesterday or 
a lifetime ago?
How long was I standing here 
for the door to open?
Or was it open all along?
Did I simply miss it 
with the distracting noise
of life going on around me?
Or was it my imagining 
of huge bolts and insurmountable 
barriers blocking the way?

How much courage did it take 
to find this portal?
How much trust to allow 
the path to unfold
to where I stand now?

The door to the unknown 
opens and I walk through.
There is no going back.
There is no answer 
to the questions, 
only the words: 
thank you, thank you.
