liminal space

“In the universe, there are things that are known, and things that are unknown, and in between them. There are doors”. ~ William Blake

These words from William Blake made me pause today. It reminded me of a poem I wrote with Ali Grimshaw’s writing circle.

The door to the unknown
opens and I walk through.
How long did it take
to find myself here?
Was it yesterday or
a lifetime ago?
How long was I standing here
for the door to open?
Or was it open all along?
Did I simply miss it
with the distracting noise
of life going on around me?
Or was it my imagining
of huge bolts and insurmountable
barriers blocking the way?

How much courage did it take
to find this portal?
How much trust to allow
the path to unfold
to where I stand now?

The door to the unknown
opens and I walk through.
There is no going back.
There is no answer
to the questions,
only the words:
thank you, thank you.

Walking through that door can be so tough.
Lately I’ve been working a lot on walking into the unknown in spite of my doubts about myself.

Doubts about ourself is one of the first doors … imposed by others when we’re young. Take some time here in order to understand and accept. 💐🙏🏻💖

It takes trust and courage to go through the doorway. I love how your poem ends with thank you, thank you. It is always an honor to write with you, Val. Keep shining your light.

Your poem sure gets the mind wondering, Val. The below lines are something I ask myself quite a bit these days, whether it is a past memory that feels like yesterday or a sudden decision made today… wondering how I got here (and where I am off to next?). :-)

    Was it yesterday or
    a lifetime ago?
How long was I standing here
    for the door to open?
Or was it open all along?

This poem makes it easier to take that extra-step through a new doorway. Inspirational.

It was/is/will be always now. It took no time at all.
