Steve Taylor teaches psychology and is a follower of Ekhart Tolle. He has taken the woo woo out of the spiritual path, with his down to earth poems and reflections on awakening. I’ve chosen this one, as it describes exactly how I was for most of my life.

Time to Stop Striving

Its time to stop striving
to stop hurtling forward like a blinkered horse.
Its time to stop pushing,
like a mad-eyed explorer who wont admit defeat
convinced the only reason he cant forge ahead
is that he's not trying hard enough.

Its time to give up
the endless struggle to become
and accept that this is all there is,
that there's nothing more to gain or lose
that if this moment isn't good enough
then no moment ever will be
that if you cant make peace with this moment now
then you'l always be at war.

Its time to stop trying
to bend the world to your will
to twist destiny to your own desires
but to allow life to unfold
with slow natural grace, like spring.

Its time to stop swimming
and let the river carry you.

Why strive so hard
when you can flow so easily?

~ Steve Taylor from "The Calm Center" - Reflections and meditations for Spiritual Awakening

When we stop trying to bend the world to our will, a new way of being unfolds for us. First there is relief and then gratitude for not falling into the abyss after all.

Those who are not ready to relinquish control, will automatically reject this. The ego mind is a powerful force to keep people stuck in a fear filled superficial world.

A new door of understanding opens when we take time to pause and make peace with this moment.

May we find our way to let go of striving and flow through the Holidays. Let go of what doesn’t work and embrace what does. The world is unfolding and it’s okay to let go of parts of the past that don’t feel joyful.

that seems like it would be so hard to do; it almost seems like you are giving up. I’ll have to think about this one a bit more. Happy Holidays, Val!

I’ve been a striver for most of my life too Val, slowly learning to unwind, relax, and flow. To flowing lives and holidays.

Perfect. I’m in the flow and watching what comes with it. Not what I expected but definitely what I needed. It’s an interesting thing to watch what the Universe brings from my thoughts. Letting things unfold is so rare.

Such a beautiful and important piece, Val. So very nice to see you are still thriving here on WP, and in life. Years ago, a favorite book that I shared with so many…”Don’t Push the River, It Flows by Itself”. Same sentiment. Great message. Thanks for this one. Van

I love this, Val. So I can stop striving for balance, inner peace, living in the moment, feeling grateful. Lol. All that pressure to focus inward and let go. Phew. I’m being tongue in cheek a bit, but there is some pressure to do/be all the “good stuff” too. Today I’ll take Taylor’s advice and just be me. ❤ ❤

My take away from this is to stop living in survival mode. This reaction is not helpful. I am working to notice. Feel what is and then move forward just being.

    Thank you, Val.

Wishing a holiday full of all good things.

    Love and love,

    Ali

Feeling what is, is hard. Especially when we have developed minds that love to analyze rather than allow feelings. The heart and the body, rather than the head is where this journey opens up. A Buddhist phrase I say over and over again is:
“Is it pleasant? Unpleasant? And can I be with it? Simply be with it.”
    Start with acknowledging discomfort. 💞
