Here in the US we put our clocks ahead one hour, for Daylight Savings Time to begin tomorrow. I’m looking forward to lighter evenings, but not the adjustment in my body. I couldn’t help but smile when I came across this poem from Danna Faulds.

Sweet Time

Great nature takes
her own sweet time.
No one can hurry
sunrise; migrating birds
arrive when they arrive;
trees grow and leaf
on their own unique
schedules. We are
the only creatures
with clocks, minute
hands marching in
tight circles, seconds
flashing past. Think of
the inner peace
if we awoke one day
to find that all the
clocks had turned into
flower pots filled with
buds that bloomed only
when a power greater
than calendars or hours
coaxed their petals open.

~ Danna Faulds from "Breath Of Joy"

I enjoy how Danna captures the essence of time here so simply: Its tight control over us and its flashing nature, compared to the possibility of inner peace and gentle opening and awakening.

Hhmm … What would life be like if we weren’t driven by time?…

May you find your own sweet time tomorrow and in all the days ahead.

Namaste

  1. I love this poem, Val. Thank you for offering it as we do that time change thing again. I decided last time we changed back to standard time that I would remain there. But for the appointments that are indeed time sensitive, I do not push my body to make an artificial adjustment. Even my cats are fine with when I feed them…standard time. 😉🙏🏻💜

    • I love your flexibility … and ability to stay true too. My alarm is on standard time and I never reset it. I also haven’t used it for a couple of years 🤣

  2. We in Arizona do not change our clocks and I love that about this state. Tomorrow, my daughter and I will be on the same time again. I take my own sweet time about way too many things these days. Had a whole list of to do’s. I did a nap. 🙂

    • Thank you my funny heroic friend. So good to know what we strive for … and accept what is unattainable. Keep smiling through it all 💐🙏🏻😊

  10. A lovely poem to accompany the header picture. We don’t adjust our clocks until 26th. I wish we could just leave them alone, especially as I don’t remember how to adjust my watch every 6 months.

  11. Thanks for sharing Faulds’ poem, Val. I love that. Time is a powerful construct and I’d love to live without it once in a while.

  15. That was so true about time. I think we got a taste of an absence of time during COVID for some of us. People could do so much less yet always felt busy. Luckily, I tend to be on my own time most days. But the time change, regardless of gaining or losing an hour, my body gets kind of cranky for a few days. Otherwise time is a construct we tend to put on ourselves to make others happy and keep us on everyone else’s time tables. Would I love the freedom to just be and do as I please. Of course! Would I be able to truly function that way, that is the real question. Kitt

  16. Beautiful poem you shared – so relevant. Taking sweet time as required for the body and mind, to be in the rhythm of my own nature – it is something I am practicing consciously. Nature around us continually models the process to us.

  17. Do you know Val, after 15 years in Hawaii with no time changes, I stayed in one time zone all winter long. I mean, the clock changed but my body didn’t. So when the clock changed back, it wasn’t a big deal. I just have to keep appointments straight and such! 😝❤️
