No matter where you are, follow love and trust it to direct your course. ❤️
I have shared these words before, but they are worth coming back to again and again. They are from “The Prophet” by the Lebanese American poet and writer Kahlil Gibran. His work touches me deeply. Its beautiful and real. No pink hearts, flowers and chocolates here. This embraces more than romantic love or love within relationships. It can also be read as an expression of divine love.
Notice where it resonates in your heart and soul. 💛
LOVE
When love comes to you, follow it, though its ways are hard and steep.
And when its wings enfold you yield to them, though its hidden sword may wound you.
For even as it is for your growth, it is for your pruning.
Even as it ascends you to your height, so shall it descend to your roots and shake them.
But if in your fear you would seek only love’s peace and pleasure,
then it is better for you to cover yourself into the seasonless world, where you shall laugh, but not all of your laughter, and weep, but not all of your tears.
Love gives nothing but itself, and takes nothing but from itself.
Love does not possess, nor would it be possessed.
And do not think that you can direct the course of love, for love, if it finds you worthy, directs your course.
Love has no other desire but to fulfill itself.
Kahlil gibran is always worth a second or third reading. 😊 Thank you for sharing. 💕

I’m glad these beautiful words resonated with you Hariod. Let’s top up the beauty with this:
How will you find the secret of death, unless you seek it in the heart of life.
In the depth of your hopes and desires lies your silent knowledge of the beyond.
Like seeds dreaming beneath the snow, your heart dreams of spring.
Trust the dreams, for in them is hidden the gate to eternity.
Only when you drink from the river of silence shall you indeed sing.
And when you have reached the mountaintop, then shall you begin to climb.
And when the earth shall claim your limbs, then shall you truly dance.

For what is it to die but to stand naked in the wind and to melt into the sun? And what is it to cease breathing but to free the breath from its restless tides, that it may rise and expand and seek God unencumbered?

Thanks Val. I have loved him since high school, and still have my original The Prophet, which I still pick up now and again. I love what he says about marriage, children, death. Just so wise, deep and to the point. I also love the image here. Happy Monday, Val.
Peace and Love,
Mary

His peaceful “middle ground” resonated with me:
“But if in your fear you would seek only love’s peace and pleasure,
then it is better for you to cover yourself into the seasonless world, where you shall laugh, but not all of your laughter, and weep, but not all of your tears.”
A peaceful middle ground appeals more to me than extreme highs and lows. 😀

You are lucky Eliza 💛 His words are such a gift. I didn’t know of his work until recently. We were more Shakespeare and Dickens oriented in my high school.

This is a great Gibran quote. Based in truth, for love is The Path if we are to understand the cosmos at all, nevermind one another. Its complexities and joys are unparalleled, in my experience. And the most exalted mirror any of us can hold up to another without that being our intention. Aloha, Val ❤

Yes, most definitely worth reading again and again. Not long ago, I came across my father’s copy of The Prophet — a book I’d given him when I was in my 20s. It’s such a gift to have both the book and the memories.
