At the beginning it’s a place where we pause and set aside the world of busyness, stressing and striving … and instead, allow ourselves to let go of our thoughts and become aware of what is alive around us and within us. This can happen when we choose to be alone or in community with like minded people. We benefit from taking time out from our lives and tap into a more calm and centered way of being. I call this Finding Your Middle Ground.
When we take time to pause and reflect, we also become more aware. We see what motivates our actions, the stories we tell ourselves and the beliefs that we have. We notice emotions and feelings in the body and the connection with the mind and emotions. We realize that we are not what we thought we were. We are so much more!
Finding Your Middle Ground is an invitation to get to know all the facets of yourself… Your thoughts, beliefs, values, and what’s most important. You discover your gifts and the shadows, and learn to let go of judging. You accept and appreciate what makes your life unique and challenging.
This is the gateway to spiritual realization and awakening.
No matter how many books you will read or spiritual leaders you will follow, it comes down to your own personal experience. You cannot imagine what it is like in your mind or rely on past experience. Becoming present and tuning into your self is a practice of mindfulness, patience and self compassion. It will be different for every one of us, and may vary each time we approach it
As you take time to pause. You will notice a slowing down and appreciation for the present moment. When you are simply being with yourself, you will find that in the resting, something else happens, beyond the calming of the nervous system and the quietening of the mind. You become curious. What is beneath and beyond? Who am I really?
This is the beginning of your spiritual journey and who you truly are. With this understanding and acceptance of yourself, you become more accepting and compassionate towards others.
From here your life becomes more centered and in balance. This is the second stage of Awakening. You are less triggered. Fear subsides and you begin to see a world of wholeness, love and possibility.
This second stage involves building a real and loving relationship with yourself. This is sometimes the hardest part. In the beginning there may a lot of judgment about how you should be and how you want to be seen – even by yourself. But real life isn’t about being happy and feeling good all the time. It’s learning to accept the highs and lows that always occur, being open to life’s lessons, and finding contentment and inner peace no matter what the circumstances…. and forgiving yourself for being imperfectly human after all.
When you Find your Middle Ground, there is a real and untouched treasure here that will sustain you and nourish you through everything that life brings.
This is the stage of personal awareness and growth – knowing and accepting all the aspects of you. It opens up compassion and kindness. Acceptance for what has happened in the past and appreciation of each and every moment. It expands your awareness to others and our shared humanity.
You recognize your small conditioned self and ego, and its many manifestations and ways it keeps you in a limited confined place. It takes courage and work to explore the hidden aspects of yourself. We all have Shadow selves that are hidden until we begin to explore this inner world. These are the lessons that can bring healing of old wounds and karma.
From here, the third stage of Awakening evolves. In this place of acceptance and love, something more wonderful wants to awaken. There becomes a knowing that you are part of something more that your little local self. That there is a higher Self, Source and Spirit within you that connects you to everything and everyone around you. This inner Presence is a place of peace, wisdom and love. You find your own connection to Source and become aware of this higher level of consciousness and vibration is others.
You know there is something so much more, yet as human beings, you may still be chained to the fearful ego and wanting to avoid life’s uncomfortable lessons. You may spend time with this awareness, reject the idea of shadow and look for ways to transcend the ego. This is spiritual bypassing, and is often part of the journey. A step off the path in order to find it again.
The final stage of Awakening is to live in a way of full realization. Detaching from the world yet being connected with it in a new way. You may look the same on the outside, but there is an inner transformation that has taken place: A sense of wholeness and freedom from fear; A constant loving presence and compassion for yourself, others and the world; An all-embracing love and gratitude for simply being alive.
When you live from this Center of your Being, you will never lose your way in the highs and lows of life. You trust in how life is unfolding and keep connecting to the love and guidance from Source and Spirit. As human beings we may step off the path, especially when old patterns from the past are triggered, but finding our way back becomes easier and easier.
Thank you for joining me on this journey. I am so grateful that you are here.
