Authentic being
Reality is grounding
Your soul knows the truth
~
These words came to me in the pre dawn stillness.
We all want to live authentically, but what does that really mean?
It means being in alignment with our essential being: heart, mind and soul. An other way to express it is to be attuned to our Higher Self or Spirit.
So many of us live our lives in our heads and have become disconnected from the wisdom and guidance of the heart and our higher self. We have also disconnected from our bodies, and it shows up as unexpected ailments and chronic illness.
Perhaps the most important realization, is that when we live in our heads, we are looking to the past for reassurance or lessons, and projecting into the unknown future with our active imaginations and fear driven beliefs. When we tune into our bodies and our breath, we learn to notice whatever is occurring in the present moment.
Being aware of the moment we are in and getting to know ourselves beyond our conditioned mind, are key to our personal and spiritual transformation.
From our early years we wanted more pleasure and tried to move away from any discomfort and pain. We needed to feel loved and approved of, and adapted our behavior to please others, so we could be seen in a certain light. Our guide was our relationship with others, along with our growing sense of self or ego.
Authentic being is when we start to see beyond the beliefs and behaviors that our ego mind has created.
The way we want to be seen, or who we think we should be, is the domain of the ego. Its role is to keep us safe … and also keeps us a separate individual in the world. This sense of being separate is at the core of our culture and the foundation for independence, self reliance and competition, as well as entitlement, greed, and selfishness. It is so conditioned we no longer think about it.
Life becomes complex and complicated when we give free rein to our thinking mind, and its preferences. We have to remind ourselves that our thoughts are not the truth, and what others agree on is not the truth either. We must listen to our inner guide and honor our own values.
When we step back and begin to know what really matters to us, things become clearer. We must access our own guiding light, rather than being swayed by others and external pressure.
Attuning to our selves, rather to what others have imposed on us, or simply assumed on our behalf, is the first step towards the freedom to be your true authentic self.
To be true to yourself, and touch your soul, start to follow what intrigues and calls to you. Find what makes you light up from the inside. It doesn’t need to be monumental. It can be the joy in collecting, or making or solving a puzzle, picking or planting flowers, achieving a goal, connecting to like minded people, finding where you belong, helping others, tending to the sick, giving comfort, being an inspiration, offering a practical service, or exploring a natural talent.
Let the light begin to shine through you, and let it show you the way.
Namaste
