Choose the whole of life,
Night and day, bitter and sweet.
Find the key to peace.

~

When we accept that life is a series of highs and lows, and not the honeymoon we were hoping for, we find the key to living life in balance. We realize that what we are experiencing is simply a part of the whole. We can’t slice off the parts that we don’t want.

This whole and fractured life allows us to grow, find courage and meet its challenges. We appreciate the sweetness and find joy where before there was anxiety.
We embrace the freedom to be ourselves, coming from a place of contentment and peace.

We come from a place I call our middle ground.

  5. I think Anthony Bourdain tired of the ups and downs.
    Kate Spade too.
And since they couldn’t slice off the parts they didn’t want . . . they left.

For most, finding peace with the whole is a better option.

  6. Best thing I’ve read in a while! You’re right…life is a whole and we can’t cut off slices, we must enjoy all the slices as those are challenges that are meant to be set before us.

  7. Such wise advice, Val! When we recognize that life has highs and lows, it’s easier to weather the lows without feeling like they’re the end of the world. There are times when I need to remember this!

  9. Wise words! Too often, I find myself resenting life’s “lows” when they are really just part of the package.

This comes at the perfect time as my son struggles with managing the ups and downs of life. We can only appreciate the “highs” when we have experienced the inevitable “lows.” I will be sharing this with him as he tries to navigate the balancing act. Thank you.

  16. My yoga teacher ends class with a prayer, and one line in it is, “Everything is a blessing or a lesson on the road home.” I’ve come to find that some things are both. I just went through the most challenging time of my life (so far), and it has transformed me into a completely different person, freed from so many of the things that had held me back in the past.
