Haiku – connection

Joy in connection.
Noting lightness of being.
Internet is back!
~

We have been hit hard with high winds in the North East US, resulting in major power outages.  Two days without internet, phone or cell reception has been an interesting experience.  As a good friend reminded me, “We are lucky to have this first world problem.” But I do miss being able to reach out easily to others.

Its all about perspective and being grateful for this time and what is within our control. I get to slow down, read and accept, and remind myself of the Serenity Prayer. Don gets to embrace his pioneer spirit, taking charge of the homestead, wife and animals.

The power is still not back on, but thankfully we have a generator which can take care of heat, light and refrigeration…. and my computer.

I’m looking forward to catching up and connecting again.

    We are in the same “no power” boat. And, informed that it will last at least three more days. Feeling incredibly grumpy while trying to find the lesson in accepting this inconvenience. Heading to a yoga class seeking a bit of serenity.

      As soon as I posted this, the internet went down. A good lesson in attachement that’s for sure. Power came back on along with the interent at lunchtime. Life is even sweeter, as well as warmer!

    We don’t realize how dependent we are on electricity until it goes down. I really find it hard to keep equilibrium, lol! We did install a generator several years ago, and while it doesn’t power the whole house, the essentials are covered, and for that I am grateful. No more bottled water and hauling toilet water from the creek!

      I did a lot of long exhales and kept cosy by the fire! We are back on, as of lunchtime. So much to catch up on. I feel like I’ve been off the planet since Friday!

    Being without a computer sends me in a state of genuine anxiety as I need it to pay rent and utility bills (let alone connect with people). Being much more housebound with health symptoms these days means relying on power for just about everything. Even my gas cooktop won’t ignite without power I discovered on the last power outage. Who would have thought it. Hopefully, they’ll resolve my (newish) apartment building’s weird electrical faults by installing new electrical switchboard’s in each apartment next weekend (as scheduled).

    ……and we don’t even have wild and frigid weather conditions in my suburb of Melbourne, Australia.

    Although I have to say we’ve had some really fierce storms, wild gale force winds and flooding throughout our Summer.

    May you be fully connected to everything you need (in whatever way you need it) 🙂

    I’m sorry you lost power and all contact with the outside word, but to see your man go all pioneer on you might be worth it! And about the Serenity Prayer, acceptance is the key.

    hoping all is up and running now Val.
    loss of power isn’t ‘fun’, especially in dead of winter or, scorching OZ heat waves…. my grandparents were much more prepared for such things. thus, kept their calm – I try to channel their calm. LOL

      Channeling the calm of grandparents is a wonderful perspective Debi! Don and I talked about the old days and being kids with no heating and limited hot water. There were fun memories then. We defintely talked more with each other without our devises!

        I think, Grandparents are often overlooked in the family structure. They can be, the underpinning source of solidity – the sense of wholeness within the group.
