“Between stimulus and response there is a space. In that space is our power to choose our response. In our response lies our growth and our freedom.”

~ Viktor E. Frankl

The pause between our reaction to an external stimuli and how we choose to respond is essential in our evolution as human beings. Otherwise we react instinctively from our animal brain.

Space allows us to be open to choose our response

Gives the time for deep full breaths with long exhales.

There is more here than clearing the mind

Being present to our inner state

Reduces clutter and brings clarity.

Space allows for expansion

Learning to be observers without judgment.

In this space our life energy flows through our being

Mind, body and spirit connect

Drawn to the light of inner freedom

  2. Excellent advice, you see it time and time again when people react on the spur of the moment, how they perhaps wished they had paused for that deep breath and given it some thought.
I am learning to observe more and more. and take more spaces even between blogs.. lol..
Sending Huge hugs dearest Val, your posts are always full of wisdom..

  3. This one had me thinking. Never a good idea to respond before we take a pause.

  4. Many of my “best” choices emerged from that space . . .

  5. This is very true. Allowing space between external stimulus and our response is also empowering. We are no more bound to react in a certain way. Even when something unpleasant happens, we can choose a positive mindset and respond from there, rather than getting trapped in dark negativity. This choice empowers us.

  6. There is also a space between our inhales and exhales, the pauses.

This space can help develop the other space.

  8. The pause and the space is where a lot awaits and a lot unfolds – wisdom for action comes from there.

  10. Viktor Frankl left us such a powerful legacy of wisdom from his experience. One of my favorite quote of his…and a very timely post, dear Val. 🙏🏻

  11. Yup. Took me years to cultivate the habit of pausing, both outwardly but more importantly inwardly. Such a difference, allowing me to perceive things as they are rather than simply reacting to an emotional trigger. Aloha, Val. ❤
