Inspiration – Heart Like a River

immense riverIf you pour a handful of salt into a cup of water, the water becomes undrinkable. But if you pour the salt into a river, people can continue to draw the water to cook, wash, and drink.

The river is immense, and it has the capacity to receive, embrace, and transform.

When our hearts are small, our understanding and compassion are limited. We can’t accept or tolerate others and their shortcomings, and we demand that they change. In this state, we suffer.

But when our hearts expand, these same things don’t make us suffer anymore. We have a lot of understanding and compassion and can embrace others and their shortcomings.

We accept others as they are, and then they have a chance to transform… in their own way and in their own time.

Our heart is immense, and it has the capacity to receive, embrace, and transform.

  2. I start almost every day near a river. Like life, it keeps moving forward, never the same day twice, with an almost infinite capacity to handle whatever its given.

  5. Well said, Val. Our heart is grand enough to dissolve completely any toxic thoughts that may arise, and return them to their safe elemental forms of pure light… 🙂

    1. Thank you dear Sue. I had a family interaction after I wrote this post that closed my heart and gave me a headache. Coming back here, and seeing your comment has helped me realize that I can be the river and allow things to pass in their own way. Hugs to you 💕

      1. You know Val, families teach us many things, some hearts will always remain closed to that which we have come to understand.. I am learning with family too, that each are on their path, While I used to try to reach into their hearts, I now know we can only show our own hearts, and hope others may one day learn to open theirs.. if not, its not their time to expand and progress..
So pleased you came back to re-look at the river that flows.. ❤
