“The time will come
when, with elation,
you will greet yourself arriving
at your own door, in your own mirror,
and each will smile at the others welcome,
and say, sit here. Eat.
You will love again the stranger who was your self.
Give wine. Give bread, Give back your heart
to itself, to the stranger who has loved you
all your life, whom you ignored
for another, who knows you by heart.
Take down the love letters from the bookshelf,
the photographs, the desperate notes,
peel your own image from the mirror.
Sit. Feast on your life.”
– Derek Walcott, “Love After Love” 1974
No matter what has happened in the past, all your past experiences have brought you to this present moment.
Let this awareness open your heart in loving kindness and gratitude.
Now is the time to come home.
Find your Self waiting with open arms.
This has been one of my favorite poems since I took a course in MBSR in 2009.

You’ve recycled this haven’t you Val?:) I love it today, just as much as I did yesterday: the images of the arch and the bread are just as satisfying and comforting as the ones above. I love ‘doorways’ and ‘archways’ – inviting and hopeful, all at the same time!

Goodness is always worth repeating Marie! Blogging is also a great way for me to remind myself. Gates and doors are symbolic to me as well. Transitioning into new spaces . Isn’t that the path we are all on?❤

I loved that you repeated it Val! Had I not seen the most recent one, I would have missed out had I not come across the earlier one – I hope I’ve not confused you! lol
Psst … I’ve recycled a few of mine too. It’s amazing to see how different the response is each time.
Paths and doors/gates – YES!!!!!!! ❤
