Inspiration – Teacher Sri Nisargadatta Maharaj

Finding clarity in the flow of life.

The Living Present
“What is wrong with seeking the pleasant and shirking away from the unpleasant? Between the banks of pain and pleasure the river of life flows. it is only when the mind refuses to flow with life, and gets stuck in the banks, that it becomes a problem. By flowing with life I mean acceptance – letting come what comes and go what goes. Desire not, fear not, observe the actual, as and when it happens, for you are not what happens, you are to whom it happens.”

~ Taken from “I Am That”, Talks with Sri Nisargadatta

This is one of the introductory talks with Sri Nisargadatta Maharaj. Becoming unattached to our thoughts and our desire for pleasure and aversion to pain, is key in the practice of yoga and other spiritual paths.

I appreciate the analogy of a river. When we focus on going with the flow of life and being aware of the banks, but don’t get stuck on either one.

Let today be a day to go with the flow… and to be a kind observer of yourself. Notice when you reach for pleasure or reject the unpleasant. When you notice this, pause, breathe and come back to your Middle Ground. You are on the path.

  1. That I did kind lady. I went out onto my balcony and just stood in the rain and let it go on by in complete acceptance. Cleanest I’ve ever been 🤣❤️🙏
