I was drawn to teach yoga in 2001, when I realized that it was time to build a new level of understanding of yoga, that would satisfy my own needs and those of others. It wasn’t a momentous or special revelation, but much more of a simple step to explore and learn.
That’s how Spirit works. Gentle nudges to get our attention … and it feels just right.
So I followed the teachings and philosophy and learned how to lead classes. I found satisfaction that I was doing a good thing, and also appreciated that I had a talent for teaching.
In time, I came to realize that a class was only as good as what the students got out of it. It wasn’t about how good the teacher performed, or how much they knew. That only takes you so far. The most important thing is how well the students become attuned to their bodies and learn to do what feels right for them.
I also realized that most people live in their heads and are disconnected from their bodies. A gentle approach with options that felt right for them helped them tune into their own bodies, rather than following me.
The student becomes their own teacher, and I am just the guide to helps them explore their own body, breath, movement and sensations. I also help them to stay safe in their practice.
When you tune in to your body with gentle awareness and curiosity you can expand our own understanding of the body and the energy that flows throughout your being.
This is the space where opening, nurturing and healing takes place.
Yoga is not a work out, but a work in.
And after all these years of teaching I will continue to listen to and adapt my aging body and offer guidance for those who show up and join me.
You can get a taste of this practice on my YouTube channel. (If you don’t have a bolster, you can use a rolled up yoga mat or bath towel).
Thank you from my heart to all the yoga students and peeps who have come and gone, and those who still remain. You are the best teachers.
Namaste

I’d love to hear from you …
