The days heading
to the solstice feel
dark and heavy.
A load to carry towards
the shifting sun.
Yet the light shines
brightly on the other side
Where summer is peeking out.

The mind is connected
to the world around us
And can create a new dawning

From today I will embrace
the Antipodean in me.
Call me Sheila
Let's roll out the barbie.

  4. Haha, oh ok then Val, no offense taken dear lady. I’ll just celebrate my warmth over here with a barbie in salute to the bravery of you frozen souls up north. In fact, for such faith and courage I shall suffer a trip to the warmth on our local beach and salute you with a toast, a coffee among the seagulls, dolphins and hopefully a warm current has finally come into the bay so toes walking in the waves of salt water no longer curl on contact 🤣❤️🙏🏽

  7. Ha! We must take our turn in the dark while our down-under neighbors get their sun, bless them! It always takes me a few weeks to ‘settle down’ into hibernation mode, a lazy-cat time of year for me to enjoy reading in pools of sunshine in the living room, warmed by the wood stove and cups of tea.

  11. Love this, and what could be better than having an Aussie attitude (and summertime) during this holiday season ~ yes, you have the talent of a poet as well; beautifully written and felt. 🙂 Wishing you a great season of spirit and happiness, Val. Take care ~
