life lessons

Eckhart Tolle tells us our purpose is to awaken.

Awaken to what?

Awaken to the realization that we are all connected. We are not separate.

We are part of a larger consciousness. We are connected to, and are a part of the Divine, Source, God, Presence, Universe, Consciousness, Love or whatever word works for you.

When we realize that, our world shifts away from “I” and our small self with its fears and stories.

All paths agree that we can only awaken when we pause and become a compassionate observer of ourselves. In the present moment, and especially through self inquiry and meditation, we become accepting of all aspects of ourselves and the perceived polarities within us. These polarities may be: clever and stupid; loving and hateful; strong and weak ; generous and mean; open and closed; humble and proud etc. Aspects of ourselves that we might see as light and shadow.

As human beings we all have inner critters, critics, gremlins or judges. It goes with the territory.

However, as long as we believe our inner critic

And judge ourselves harshly

We will remain asleep.

Our purpose begins not with awakening, but by pausing in the moment and becoming a kind observer to all aspects of ourselves…. including our inner critic.

Yes dear lady, that moment of recognition changes it all. And the rebirth begins. Its like struggling to reach a peak, facing and focusing on each handhold and step, limiting in what you can see…and then doing something never done before, go down the other side…but so much easier, more accepting, less struggle and now seeing the panorama all around…and so appreciated for what it took to find it. Great post Val 😀 ❤️ 🙏🏽 🦋

…and we are one community. Lovingly caring for ourselves so we can offer the same to others. I know this is present in our world and I wish to believe there is more of this, not less of it. Sometimes, it’s challenging to see it.

Thank you for this Carrie 💕 O hear you. The challenge comes from all the external pressures to pull everyone in the opposite direction! Trust that this is our true way of being. 🙏

Hi Val, What timing?! Your post reiterates a conversation over tea I had yesterday with a friend – focused on a book we both read recently The Awakened Brain by Lisa Miller. It is a summary of the research of the last 20 years which gives scientific proof that we are hard wired for spirituality!! It is a great read and I highly recommend it. Joan G got it and read it in a day and also found it compelling! Sending hugs your way, Sharon

”What are you ~ a god, an angel, a saint?”

“No,” replied The Buddha, “I am A-W-A-K-E.”

Love the post. You capture a universal truth here. Tolle talks about us all being connected. A psychologist might say meaning comes from taking responsibility for others. A Christian would say the great commandment is to love others. Buddhists practice metta or unconditional kindness. Thanks for sharing this.

May we blow kisses to our inner critics and gremlins and show them there’s a bigger love always always always surrounding them. ❤
