“Once, while Mahatma Gandhi’s train was pulling slowly out of the station, a European reporter ran up to his compartment window. “Do you have a message I can take back to my people?” he asked. It was Gandhi’s day of silence, a vital respite from his demanding speaking schedule, so he didn’t reply. Instead, he scrawled a few words on a scrap of paper and passed it to the reporter: “My life is my message.””
~ Eknath Easwaran from Your Life Is Your Message

Gandhi chose to have a day of silence as part of his message to the world. His message was peace and that is how he lived his life.

gandhi reading

We all have the opportunity to go beyond “walking our talk” and living our life with meaning and purpose.
It is up to us to choose what matters and then live by it. In doing so I believe we also connect to a higher consciousness.

I recall many years ago when I was asked what was most important to me in my life at that time? My answer was “yoga”. Yet I wasn’t truly living it. I was fitting it in around my work. I was “doing” it rather than “being” it.

Living true to our beliefs, our values and what we cherish, creates meaning and purpose that expands beyond our individual selves.

So, how are you living your life?

Everything shifts and changes with time. What was important to you 10 years ago may not be as relevant today.

Is the way you are living your life now, your message to the world? … Or perhaps it’s time to realign and find out what has become most important.

If you were to shift towards a more authentic way of living, where could you start to bring about change?

Let your inner wisdom guide you towards transformation and living your life with meaning. Its never too late to follow your passion and live your values.

  5. Indeed Val. I think that living it takes some time, as we change because of our experiences and become that inner place…all over as that love shows us its beauty, and the answer we have always looked for. Great post kind lady, may we ever follow its path 🤗❤️🙏

  7. Very well said, Val.

I started on June 7th to write down all the positive things that happened that day. I’m now up to July 9th and have 69 events recorded. I thoroughly recommend it to you all. My ClubNorthwest coach, Bruce, said that recording these, positive, events produces a new brain pathway for me.

Try it, and after about a week it becomes a habit; a verey good habit!

  10. Paying attention to what feels hard and what flows is where I start. I’ve noticed that since I moved a year ago, there is still clutter distracting me from clarity. I’m spending one day a week at least to clear more out that doesn’t resonate any longer. That opens channels so I’ve realized that what was intended to be fun, turned into work. Time for a real shift and it’s still not too late, I hope. Good subject. I’m not the same person I was a year ago either.

    1. I love that Marlene💖. We all grow with awareness. Noticing distractions and embracing what resonates brings clarity. Love that you are spending time intentionally doing this 💐

  11. Val, I love the questions you ask. It’s really hard to see yourself when you are in the thick of it. What’s most important to me at the moment? I try to focus on my spiritual needs toret them as much as I can. It seems selfish yet it’s exactly what I need. I’m less of a people pleaser than I was before, that’s a huge win. I listen to myself more than I listen to others so that I could know myself better. There are some discoveries, and lots of unlearning taking place. I’m work in progress

  14. Living sustainably (reducing, reusing, recycling), minimizing my carbon footprint, being kindly honest, enjoying plant based meals, decluttering, allowing myself to “just be” without having to Do, Do, Do or Go, Go, Go ~> all part of my message.

That said, I have NOT mastered the art of silence! 😀

  26. Your distinction between “doing” yoga and “being” it cuts right to the heart of it we can fill our lives with practices and values without actually embodying them. That gap between intention and lived reality is where most people stay stuck, but you’re calling us to the harder, richer work of letting our actions truly reflect what we claim to believe in.

    1. So glad you were able to perceive this foundational knowing. Thank you 💖
When we let go of how others perceive us or how we want them to see us, and become true to our own inner knowing, and express it in the world … we become who we’re meant to be.

Great message. I started meditating about five years ago. The practice has been a gift to help quite the world around me. My learning about stoicism has been an incredible stacker on meditation. I am starting to learn more about myself and what I want to be as a person. I think it is important to keep moving and trying new things. So, meditation, and philosophy have been pillars that help me understand how I am living my life and adjusting.

  30. I’ve been meditating off and on. Its helped me immensely and I need to get back to it. Now I lie down with music in my headphones, I think this may be a form of meditation as I feelt he same effecst often. Before I started that journey I was a lot more rougher around the edges. Since Starting I notice people seem to feel more secure around me

    1. Thank you Eric for sharing. Coming into presence is more than having a meditation practice. Let your curious soul explore more. I love to listen to music, sit in nature and spend 10 minutes with legs up the wall … and I find presence in the same way as in meditation. It’s about our intention… and making it happen. Our energy shifts as we connect inwards. It changes within us, and others notice it usually subconsciously. 💐

  31. Change starts within … essential ‘fixing’ the emptiness of a room, an apartment, a mindset, etcetera … until then the reflections from the mirrors showcase the stagnancy of the conditioning.
