I am reaching out to see if anyone has come across this problem … and has a solution.
I wasn’t logged into WordPress for 10 days, and when I returned this happens:
I am receiving email notifications from sites I follow. However, when I click the link to the site, on some sites WordPress doesn’t recognize me, and I can’t hit like or leave a comment directly.
For some sites I have been asked to confirm my identity and password, and this has worked for continued direct access. (Example – David Kanigan’s)
However, for other sites it doesn’t even ask who I am, and doesn’t let me do anything. A dialogue box comes up and and then quickly disappears. (Example Kate Crimmin’s and Paul Handover’s)
Any insights on this?
Thank you!
Val
I’ve had similar problems like this in the past, Val, but could only wait for the problem to be resolved – it’s very frustrating.

Thanks Tom. I’m trying to go with the flow here 😉

Sorry you too are having problems Val.. I can only suggest you contacting the happiness Engineers. 😉 lol .. They didnt sort out my problems though.. And tell them what difficulties you are experiencing..
For Me I had sites unfollowed, and I am not registering at all when I leave a comment on some blogs, even when I enter my comment via the reader like I am here on your blog today..
Others I am spam, yet I can not be found in their spam box, even though the Happiness Engineers say I am there, its up to the owner of the site to dig me out, Yet they say I am not there..
I am not getting return reply comments on certain blogs and have to revisit their site to see they left me a comment back..
All in all Lots of Gremlins in the works right now..
So I do so sympathise with you Val.. and hope it can soon be sorted..
I did have a problem on one site like yours.. that asked me several times to log in, and when I finally left a long comment it vanished into thin air… So I know the frustrations you are speaking of..
❤

Funny, I have that problem form my Android tablet but not on my big computer. I thought it was my tablet, but it might be more than that. I’ve never queried it as it works everywhere else though. Hope they can fix the problem.

Thanks Ute! I just realized that the difficulty is with my computer and not on my iPad. There might be something incompatible… that will be fixed in the next upgrade!

I’m sorry you’re having issues, Val. A while back, I was having all kinds of problems with e-mail notifications. I’ve since, stopped the notifications and access all of the blogs I follow through WordPress Reader. I actually like it better…less emails! Good luck. ❤

Now that was courageous Jill! I might just follow your suit.
It would definitely be a practice of letting go. 😊Thank you for planting a seed towards email freedom ❣

I will need to set aside time to review the Reader, rather than nonchalant ly coming back to emails.
By George … it’s worth a go.
( I am currently typing on my mini iPad, that doesn’t have room for the typingg screen and keyboard. So I am typing blind. ) what we do to connect and have fun eh?!? 💛

I have the same problem as utesmile, on my tablet, if I like or click reblog, the page goes white and does nothing. No problems on my desktop at all,
I believe there is an update Val, that might have set a “default” box..
Have you checked all your admin choices?
Other than that, the Happiness Crew is your next option…
May your adventure be plentiful😊💜

How frustrating! ….. and puzzling! Have you been in contact with WP Happiness Team? You could send them what you wrote above. They’re very helpful.

Thanks Mary Lou! I figure things are always changing and upgrading that I can be okay with it. I’m happy here on my iPad where everything goes smoothly. xo

Can’t help directly but surprised to hear that the WordPress team aren’t being responsive. That’s not been my experience previously.

Hi Paul, I have been browsing forums and the help desk but haven’t had the time to set aside time to speak to a real person. Thought I’d check in with my peeps first 😊

Not necessarily a problem, Val.
A fellow blogger I know wasn’t getting his email notifications and discovered quit by chance (he uses gmail the same as me) that all his emails were going to spam. He had something like 927 emails in his spam box. I didn’t understand how he could not notice that, but turns out his gmail shows a different layout on his inbox page (to my gmail inbox page).
While I have had many WP problems in the past, some valid (as WP does a software update which doesn’t quite work), some invalid (because I have made changes and forgot to fix the settings myself), sometimes WP doesn’t work at all and I can never figure out what’s happening.
I have wondered if a particular template has been updated by that particular template designer and all users of that template start having probs.
For the last 2 days, my gmail was jammed or intermittent and I just had to wait for it to get over it’s hiccups and behave. Sometimes, just closing down my computer and restarting it will clear a WordPress problem too – don’t ask my why. My computer is a 2012 Mac Pro.
Unlike Jill (in the comment above), I dislike the Reader and prefer email notifications as I get dizzy scrolling through the Reader. (I do everything via Email and with my poor short-term memory, I even send emails to myself to act as ‘Reminders’).
Despite following many people via email notifications, I never get them all. Who knows why. Once every couple of months, I DO a quick perusal of the Reader to see what I’ve missed.
Double-check all your settings, Val…..just in case you’ve not noticed there’s some restriction which you’ve never picked up on before because you’ve never been offline 10 days before (or some weird thing like that). I’ve got my blogs set to only allow likes and comments up to 14 days after the original new post upload………..I think 🙂

Don’t know if it’s related, but the comment I left on your post yesterday (Inspiration for Growth) disappeared after you replied to it. Your reply is there, but my comment is AWOL.
Have you tried logging out and logging back in again at the main page?

Frustrating! Sorry I can’t be of much help, Val. I have had strange things happen…but they usually correct themselves in time.
I hope that you and yours are well and that Spring is about to be sprung for you 😉 Much love ❤

Thanks Lorrie 💛We still have some snow and ice to contend with before Spring can be sprung! When I wrote the post last night and that little revolving rainbow started spinning, I decided to still reach out, but not be attached to getting it fixed. Things do have a way of working themselves out… as we know 💕

Every once in a while WP goes wonky on me too, Val. Usually, I wait it out and invariably it fixes itself. I wish I had a solution for you. Take deep breaths! 🙂

Val, I just checked and you are not in my spam (although Carl D’Agostino was). I don’t know why that happens. I don’t require registration for commenters and will accept anonymous ones. I am no help.

Are you on the same device (laptop, tablet, etc?) I had this problem recently while traveling. When I would change WiFi connections on my iPad, that behavior would start. I was able to get back to normal, each time, by completely shutting down and reconnecting. It’s like WordPress was carrying some leftover information about the earlier connection.

That’s what I’m thinking too Dan. It doesn’t recognize my computer as being me. I’ll close down the iPad and iPhone and see what happens. Although I hope I don’t need to always be in my office to connect here!

I had similar problems a couple years ago. Some said my browser needed updating to a faster version. I also ended up upgrading (and paying, of course) on WP and that seemed to solve it. WP does go wonky every once in a while, but thankfully, it’s been pretty minimal since then. I hope your problem resolves quickly. Happy Weekend!

Val, I’ve been experiencing some odd things lately as well. I posted two days ago and it didn’t show up in my feed and I’m not sure emails notifications were sent. Only one view from Facebook. Something is definitely going on. I have been in touch with the Hsppiness Engineers twice. I’ll keep watching and will likely contact them again next week.

Thanks being here in this weird WP muddle Carrie. I’ve deleted and reinstalled my apps. Lets see if that does anything at all …. Good luck at your end 💛

Hi Val, I have a problem “liking” posts on certain WP sites from my iPad, and yours is one of them. I can still add a comment, but can’t “like” it. If reading on my iPhone or laptop PC, there’s no problem. I asked the help team but got no help. I too follow a lot of blogs for which I never get notifications of new posts. Mercury isn’t even in retrograde right now either!

Sorry for the troubles Val. I’ve had many different issues in the past, but somehow they have all been fixed…my theory is that when they do updates, they have not tested them on all themes and all types of platforms…and weird stuff happens. I have always written to them through the WP Forums so they are aware of what’s happening. I have given up on email notifications as I already have to handle too much mail. I use the reader when I have time and have bookmarked all my favorites on my Kindle…like this blog…so I can check on the latest a and catch up when I have the time. I hope your issues are resolved soon 😘

Bookmarking favorites sound like a great way to go Helen. I have so many emails, it can easily become a chore of getting through, rather than enjoying them 💛

If we are logged in for a while, WP demand us to login again, no matter it is at our mobile, tablet or PC.
I went away from receiving notifications long time ago, instead I made a map including the blogaddresses, as I follow and read mostly. The rest I find in the Reader.
I hope, that you will find a solution fast, Val. Enjoy your day 🙂
