Go ahead and embrace the importance of negative emotion. Your emotions and the way you feel is your guidance system and it is telling you everything you need to know.
If you feel negative emotion, then you are either resisting how things are in the present moment, resisting something that was in the past, or resisting something that you think might be in the future.
Take a moment to reflect on this and see if this is true for you.
As human beings lost in our own stories, we immediately point to the outside world to create excuses as to why we can’t be happy and at peace right now.
We tell ourselves ”If that had turned out differently, then I’d be happy.
If he/she hadn’t done that to me, then I’d be happy.
If this goes the way the I want it to go, then I’ll be happy”
The moment you stop resisting life and pointing fingers at the outside world, the more a deep sense of joy and inner freedom will arise within you.
You’re an eternal being. Your consciousness cannot be destroyed. The greatest joy that you can feel is when your being comes into alignment with the very deepest, eternal, aspect of your consciousness.
What’s the one thing that you can do to allow your soul to come into alignment? Resist nothing. Surrender to everything that arises in the present moment without judgment.
Everything that you are searching for will arise from within you at a deeper and more profound level when you stop resisting what is happening.
This morning I woke up and decided I will have a day where I am curious.
People who are curious tend to:
To be curious we must pause in the moment.
No longer skipping and skimming our lives into the future or letting ourselves be stuck in the mud of the past.
To be curious brings us to our Middle Ground and we flourish here. It awakens creativity, gratitude and our inner Presence. It is the gateway to transforming all parts of our lives and awakening our spirit.

The forecast for the next couple of weeks here in the NorthEast US, is cold, windy and snow filled.
Nature has her own rhythm right now, and reminds us of the importance for snow to moisten and nourish the earth for Spring.
Finding your Middle Ground is about pausing and accepting what is happening in the here and now.
If you hear yourself complaining about the weather, remember Eckhart Tolle’s words:
“Always say “yes” to the present moment. What could be more futile, more insane, than to create inner resistance to what already is? What could be more insane than to oppose life itself, which is now and always now? Surrender to what is.
Say “yes” to life —and see how life suddenly starts working for you rather than against you.”
And keep that snow shovel handy!
“The real reason why human life can be so utterly exasperating and frustrating is not because there are facts called death, pain, fear, or hunger.
The madness of the thing is that when such facts are present, we circle, buzz, writhe, and whirl, trying to get the “I” out of the experience. We pretend that we are amoebas, and try to protect ourselves from life by splitting in two.
Sanity, wholeness, and integration lie in the realization that we are not divided, that man and his present experience are one, and that no separate “I” or mind can be found.

This last line from Alan Watts really hit home. I recall sitting in meditation, and my mind telling me over and over again “I am meditating” rather than embracing the actual experience of what it is to be present.
How many times do we read something, and rather than absorbing its full meaning and the underlying feelings, we simply read words.
When we separate ourselves from the full experience and feeling, we detach ourselves from life itself, and become actors playing out our roles.
Next time, you find yourself detaching (Or splitting yourself into two like and amoeba) pause. Notice what’s happening while its happening. Then ask “Am I aware of what I am feeling right now?”

Do they give any thought to death? Of course not.
What one does not have cannot be taken away.
Therefore the sage pays no mind to status or rank,
and so is always in the perfect position;
Is not drawn off by any one thing, and so remains amongst them all.

Words to inspire us on our journey.
Be as nature. Without attachment or fear. Pay no attention to status and find fulfillment in simply being a part of it all.
… and don’t listen to your ego, who will tell you otherwise!

I love this analogy. Its part of the human condition to keep picking up thoughts and not letting them go. Adding more and more until we find ourselves overwhelmed.
In yoga there is the term “monkey mind” for a mind that continues to jump from one thought to another. Whether monkeys or crows work for you, take a moment to reflect on how attached to you might be to your thinking.
Do you keep analyzing and adding more thoughts? Or perhaps jump from one to the next? How much are you adding to your mental clutter ?
When we take time to pause and be still, we become aware of our thinking. We realize we are not our thinking. As a witness to our thoughts, we become less attached to them.
With awareness comes detachment and the ability to let our thoughts go.
Don’t add to your inner clutter, find your middle ground.
