* Reduce your Stress with this Music

According to Inc Magazine, neuroscientists in the UK conducted a study on the top songs for reducing stress. Participants ย attempted to solve difficult puzzles as quickly as possible while connected to sensors. The puzzles induced a certain level of stress, and participants listened to different songs while researchers measured brain activity as well as physiological states that included heart rate, blood pressure, and rate of breathing.

According to Dr. David Lewis-Hodgson of Mindlab International, which conducted the research, the top song produced a greater state of relaxation than any other music tested to date.

In fact, listening to that one song — “Weightless” — resulted in a striking 65 percent reduction in participants’ overall anxiety, and a 35 percent reduction in their usual physiological resting rates.

  3. Interesting . . . But not the right song for me.
It created a sense of foreboding rather than peaceful easy feelings.

    1. Perhaps it was the throbbing heart beat Nancy. Enya’s Watermark is also on the list. I play that in my class for Savasana. Enjoy ๐Ÿ™

  9. Music and working out is my favorite way to reduce stress, Val. I have to agree with Nancy’s comment. I felt the same while listening to that particular music. Don’t laugh, but I get really relaxed listening to The Carpenters. LOL!

      2. Love Enya ~ we have about 7 of her CD’s . . .
        Each resonates with me.

Watermark is particularly lovely. Like sitting beside a stream with sunlight peeking through leaves as the water splashes past.

    1. Thanks Van. Classical music can be so uplifting … and also a great reliever of stress! As a forlorn teenager I would play Rachmaninov and Tchaikovsky on the piano and cry my heart out…. That might be too much for me right now though! xo

      1. I have a few pieces like that, the ones that evoke childhood memories. The piano was my escape in a very boisterous household. ๐Ÿ’–

  18. I really enjoyed the music here today, Val. I liked “Weightless” a lot, and found it unwinding me quite quickly. Then I clicked on your link of Enya’s “Watermark” — and that, well, it makes me want to weep it’s so purely sweet…the same thing I feel when I watch a parade.
