* Be honest with yourself

This is a profoundly simple … or should that be simply profound … message to live by!

Be honest with yourself. The world is not honest with you. The world loves hypocrisy. When you are honest with yourself you find the road to inner peace.

  5. Paramahansa Yogananda speaks the truth but with one caveat. It takes one to know oneself, truly to like oneself, before one can be fully honest with oneself. And getting to like oneself can often not be achieved without the support of a professional psychotherapist. (Just my two-pennies worth!)

    1. Thanks for your perspective Paul. I would add that there are many paths to get to know ourselves. Psychotherapy and counseling is powerful to help us heal from past trauma and wounds. As a coach I support people in understanding all aspects of themselves in the here and now, in order to live their best lives. I come from a place that trusts that most of us are whole and don’t need fixing. However, I also appreciate that things will come up from the past that may prevent bringing about change. If something comes up that suggests therapy would be helpful, I recommend it, and in fact often work in tandem with therapists.
      As a yoga teacher I support people to accept their physical and emotional being just as it is in the moment. Spiritual teachers support people in bringing new understanding and acceptance of our selves.
      It’s no surprise that many therapists follow the Buddhist tradition and explore spirituality that arises from self knowledge and acceptance.

My name is Val T Boyko and I live outside of Philadelphia, USA. I’m originally from Scotland and hold dual citizenship. You can take the girl out of Scotland but you can’t take Scotland out of the girl!

This blog came to life one morning in 2013.  I woke up with these words in my mind:  “Life is a series of highs and lows. Be grateful for the highs. Be graceful in the lows. And find contentment in your Middle Ground.”

Find Your Middle Ground blog started to explore, reflect, ask deep questions, share insights about awakening, and connect with wonderful people like yourself. Thank you for being here and being such an inspiration.
