Don’t Let It Die An Orphan
by John Mundahl *

Follow others
Until you’re tired of their exhaust,
Then strike out on your own.
Become friends with your playful self again,
That part of you
The world snatched away
When you weren’t looking.
Choose a different future,
Not the one that looms
As some grim sentence,
But the one that nags to you
In quiet moments.
Don’t let it die an orphan.

It’s never too late to choose a different future… and its so much easier when we lighten up and become friends with ourselves. Listen to what your inner guide is telling you. Be curious. Have fun with it.

Embrace your Authentic Self in the New Year

middle ground moment

Every year I choose  to recommit to becoming more authentic and true. To accept my human imperfections and to keep listening to my heart and soul for guidance.

The best New Year’s intention is to live up to our values and be authentic and kind in our decisions and actions.

There is all the difference in the world between believing in something and actually living it! May the New Year bring renewed commitment to all of our journeys.

1. Keep returning to  your middle ground instead of rushing through life’s precious moments

2. Keep appreciating and let go of chasing

3. Keep nourishing yourself and stop doing what you know is bad for you

4. Keep identifying your own gifts and stop comparing yourself to others

5. Keep being true to yourself instead of being good

6. Keep being honest with yourself instead of falling into denial

7. Keep becoming fully you instead of trying to become somebody else

8. Keep trusting your intuition and let go of waiting to be sure

9. Keep being kind to yourself and fellow flawed humans, and let go of your inner critic

 10. Keep checking in with your heart and higher Self, and not let your head and smaller self take control

When we are true to ourselves, we open up a new way of being in the world. Why not join me and choose one or two that really resonate with you for this New Year.

Wishing you al the best for 2018. May it be filled with love, beauty, grace and peace despite the highs and lows.

* My Words for 2017

fierce and kind balance

It will be a time of change. Life is unfolding along an unexpected and uneasy path, with so much outside of our control. When moving into the unknown, it is helpful to sit and pause and listen to our inner guide. In those Middle Ground moments, the words that keep coming up for me are:

Be ready to be fierce.
Be ready to be kind.

We must be prepared to stand up for what we believe in our hearts and be ready to take action against bullying, greed, violence, injustice and the unfairness that surrounds us.

Be fierce to protect what grows from kindness and love. Be ready to answer the call to educate, inspire and lead others on a higher path.

We must also be ready to be kind. To represent the kindness and humanity that we hold so dear.
We must be compassionate for those who are ignorant and fearful… and for those who also see injustice, but from a different perspective.

We must commit to understand better and do no harm.

be kind

So, take time to pause before leaping to conclusions or into action. Come to a place of inner stillness and seek the guidance from your heart and soul.

Find your Middle Ground. Open your heart and listen to the small loving voice within.

It is time.

Be ready to be fierce.
Be ready to be kind.

* Believe Nothing

“Believe nothing, no matter where you read it, or who said it, no matter if I have said it, unless it agrees with your own reason and your own common sense.” – Buddha

awakening of self

A sage’s words and wisdom mean little in themselves.

Let us all look to our own inner teacher and guide.

Trust in ourselves and our knowing.

Have faith in our own experience of the world.

This knowing is there for every one of us.

It is the place of personal growth and evolution.

* Off the Path

In the pendulum of life  … when we find ourselves off our path

every moment is an opportunity to re-commit

Don’t let your thinking get you down and disconnect you from what matters most

you are not your thinking

and the past is over

Let go of the thoughts and come into the present moment

The only moment is now

Connect with the spark within that is your guide and shining light on the path

And keep going – one step at a time.

* Inspiration – Teaching Ourselves

Teach Yourself

“No one is ever really taught by another

each of us has to teach himself.

The external teacher offers only the suggestion,

which arouses the internal teacher,

who helps us to understand things.”

                            Swami Vivekananda

From “Yoga Gems” edited by Georg Feuerstein

How will you access your inner wisdom today?

What will you learn from your internal teacher?

Be curious and have fun!

* Accept the Seasons of Your Heart

Here is some more powerful and inspiring wisdom from the heart of Kahlil Gibran in “The Prophet”. This moved me deeply and draws me back again and again. Val x

breaking the shell

“Your pain is the breaking of the shell that encloses your understanding.

Just as the stone of the fruit must break, so that its heart may stand in the sun, so must you know pain.

And if you keep your heart in wonder at the daily miracles of your life, your pain would not seem less wondrous than your joy.

woman with heart glowing

If you accept the seasons of your heart, as you have always accepted the four seasons, you would watch with serenity the winters of your grief.

Much of your pain is self-chosen. It is the bitter potion by which the physician within you heals your sick self.

healing the self

Therefore, trust the physician, and drink his remedy in silence and tranquility.

For his hand, though heavy and hard, is guided by the tender hand of the Unseen.”

Every time I read this it brings me into the present moment… no matter where I am in the highs and lows of life.

May we all embrace the seasons of our heart and the love that is always there.
