Peace starts within us.
Let the seed found in darkness
Grow towards the light

Sometimes we need to step back and take time to nurture ourselves and explore the seed within us that’s longing to be nurtured.

I tell myself there’s no rush. It’s okay to get my hands dirty. Everything will unfold and grow in its own way.

It feels good to catch up and connect with my WordPress community again❣

The Secret Heart of Time

spirit wanderer

The secret heart of time is change and growth. Each new experience that awakens in you adds to your soul and deepens your memory.

The person is always a nomad, journeying from threshold to threshold, into ever different experiences. In each new experience, another dimension of the soul unfolds.

It is no wonder that from ancient times the human has been understood as a wanderer.*

~ John O’Donohue

The gift of time opens us to new experiences.

Let us fully embrace the inevitability of change.

This is soul work.

Getting More Comfortable with Growth

seed sprouts after rain

In an earlier post about Stephen Hawking’s Universal Law of Growth we discovered that growing is a natural law that everything in nature must do. We cannot NOT grow.

Yet for many of us, personal growth can be a real challenge. Why is that?

Growth never happens in the comfortable.

As long as we perceive a “comfort zone” our ego-mind will be alert to anything that takes us out of it, and therefore into risky and vulnerable territory.

So how can we make growth easier?

Here are some perspectives that have helped me and my clients over the years.

  1. Embrace the idea that growth is natural. Knowing that, is reassuring.
  2. Expect resistance to show up and be ready for some discomfort.  This is natural too. There is nothing wrong with you.
  3. We have the ability to create the environment for us to be successful. For example, if we commit to taking better care of our bodies, then we can sign up for yoga classes; download a fitness app; stop going down the cookie aisle; set our sneakers next to our bed in the morning etc…. Keep exploring and be curious about what works best for you.
  4. Find a healthy stretch not a torturous unrealistic one. Let go of being someone who you are not! Let me repeat that. Stop resisting who you think you are. Accept yourself as this glorious flawed human being. Find your own growing edge and start working from there – step by simple step.
  5. Align any changes with what really matters. Give it real meaning –  from your heart and soul. Real growth never comes from a “should” or fear of consequences. Without inspiration change cannot thrive.
  6. Make space. You can’t keep adding to your knowledge without creating space for the new. Which often means letting go of what no longer supports you. Be prepared to let go … of many things including your own beliefs.

Spring is the natural time of year for growth and applying these principles. If you really want to grow, tune in to yourself and the word around you.

It’s all okay
You are okay

There is nothing wrong
You are not doing anything wrong

The world will find its way
And so will you

Life has brought you to this place
Your strong roots are in place

Let life unfold
And your story continue

* Inspiration – Join the Dance

The only way to make sense out of change is to plunge into it, move with it, and join the dance.

– Alan Watts

I love this message … especially as we move into a new era that is sure to bring about many changes here in the US.

What we resist only persists… and adds to our own inner struggle.

Stop resisting, and start to accept that we are in for …  Something that is yet to unfold.

When the seeds of change open, there must be growth.

So let’s embrace it, join in it and dance with it.

Each of us is a part of a future that has not been written.

Something much bigger than ourselves is at work here… and we are a part of it, whether we like it or not.

Don’t be a wallflower.

Join the dance.

The Universal Law of Growth

growing bud

Today I want to share this extract from the PBS stream of Stephen Hawking’s “Genius”.

“Given the right environment and conditions we cannot fail to grow.

Life cannot not grow.  Everything is the universe follows this rule. From a cell to a fungus, to a worm, to ourselves. Just think about it. When we fail to grow physically, mentally, emotionally and spiritually there is something that is holding us back or containing us.

With mindfulness meditation and self inquiry we can start to tune into ourselves and the environment that can support our growth.

Luckily we can create our environment. We aren’t plants or simple life formations, we have the ability to think envision and create.

I see Buddhist monks in monasteries cut off from the modern world where the seeds of  meditation and spirituality are planted and grown in just the right environment.

To aspire to be like this, in this culture and society may not be possible. In this environment we can grow in a different way.

To allow ourselves to become all that we can be, we must nurture ourselves and the environment we are in.”

May we all continue to follow the universal law of growth, by nurturing ourselves and the environment that we are in.

* Inspiration – Within You

acorn to mighty oak

All that you need, you have within you, waiting to be recognized, nurtured and allowed to grow.

An acorn contains within it a mighty oak tree.

You contain the same within you.

Just as the acorn is planted and tended to enable it to grow, so you must activate the dormant seed within you.

Are you ready to burst your bonds and become free?

To do so, choose the right environment and supportive people around you. Nourish your body so that it is a fit container for this emerging true self.

and Find your Middle Ground.

It doesn’t have to be a world changing thing to start to bring about this growing spurt, no matter what age you are!

Find the time, (and perhaps courage) to recall an earlier part of your life and see it as a compassionate observer. Notice how far you have come… and the fork in the road that you may have been ignored.

Buy that bathing suit/swimsuit that you know will allow you to feel the freedom of swimming or simply floating again. Let go of what other people might think!

Be curious to know more! Climb that tree to see what’s on the other side.

Take a moment to notice your breath when you become anxious. Then take a class to find out more about breathing and meditation and how it impacts your health and well being.

Turn off your smartphone.

When we pause and find our middle ground, we open the door to a whole new way of living life in balance, with creativity and never ending possibility.
