This poem was shared at a time of reflection during my Kripalu YTT500 Module. It really brought lightness and a fresh perspective to a time that could have been pretty serious and intense. Nadine Stair lives in Kentucky. Age 85 she was asked what she would do differently if you got to live her life all over again. This is what she said:

pick more daisies

If I had my life to live over again,
Iโ€™d try to make more mistakes next time.
Iโ€™d relax.ย Iโ€™d limber up.
I would be crazier. I would be less hygienic.
Iโ€™d be sillier than Iโ€™ve been this trip.

I would take fewer things seriously.
I would take more chances, I would take more trips.
I would climb more mountains, swim more rivers,
and watch more sunsets.
I would burn more gasoline. I would eat more ice cream and less beans.
I would, perhaps, have more actual troublesโ€ฆ

This is great, Val! I am going to go out and get myself in trouble today! <3. I tried to comment on the longer version, but it wouldn't let me sign in. So, I came back here. Have a fun day!

  3. Nadine is a very wise woman. Life is for living, taking chances and getting into trouble – and don’t we get a little thrill when we break the rules and get away with it? Life is meant to be exciting, so as Nike says, “Just Do It”! (My favourite saying).

  4. Such wise words from one who could have lived more (if she’d been brave enough).
I think we all tend to mind our manners and stay on the straight and narrow too much in life. Most of us do what all our peers do.
If I had my time over again I NEVER would have returned to Australia after my last overseas trip in the 1970s. With no money left, I took what I thought was the only option – come home and go back to full time office work. I wish I’d been brave enough to push my limits and common sense and hit the road.

    1. Thank you for sharing. Looking back I’m pretty sure most of us would have made different choices. Yet, at the time it made us feel safe. Be kind with your hindsight Vicki ๐Ÿ’›

  5. I’ve discovered that everything is as it should be and I wouldn’t do anything differently. There was good and not so good in all of it but overall, I’m delighted with my life. That doesn’t mean there weren’t plenty of challenges, just that I managed to live through them and come out more aware.

      1. I have lived a good life. A very interesting one with lots of potholes and speed bumps but it’s been quite a ride. It’s all about perspective and mine changed over the years.

โ— About Me

My name is Val Boyko, a dual citizen living near Philadelphia, originally from Scotland.

This blog came to life one morning in 2013.  I woke up with these words in my mind:  “Life is a series of highs and lows. Be grateful for the highs. Be graceful in the lows. And find contentment in your Middle Ground.”

Find Your Middle Ground blog started to explore, reflect, ask deep questions, share insights about awakening, and connect with wonderful people like yourself. Thank you for being here and being such an inspiration.
