This quote stood out for me today: “Sometimes you don’t realize the weight of something you’ve been carrying until you feel the weight of its release.”

When you find yourself tense, overwhelmed or feel the weight of the world on your shoulders. Take a moment to sit comfortably and simply notice your breath.

Every inhale brings in new life, nourishment and energy.

Every exhale is a release and letting go.

Our breath reflects the ebb and flow of life itself.

Do you notice that there is a slight pause at the end on the inhale as you hold onto the air? This holding on creates more tension in our body and it feels so good to release some of it with this simple exercise:

Take a nice big inhale and then sigh on the exhale. Really focus on the noise you can make when you breath out! Make it loud and long. The biggest and best sigh in the world.

Next, If this feels good, bring your shoulders up to your ears on your inhale and then release them away from your ears on the exhale.

You may want to bring in some shoulder rolls now. Inhale raising your shoulder up and then exhale releasing forwards. (3 times) Then inhale raising them up and exhale releasing them backwards (3 times).

As the energy moves, can you feel the shift? A lightening. As you practice this can you feel the burden releasing?

Namaste

Thank you, Val. So often we don’t realize the tension that we hold in our bodies while trying so hard to keep our composure during this uncertain time.

  8. Thanks for the reminder about breathing, Val.

I experienced this release of a burden when I closed my Fitness Together studios. As much as I enjoyed it, I didn’t realize how stressful it was until I walked away…

  9. Thanks Val. This resonates with me. the other day I was feeling all stressed as I felt that I should be using this time in lock-down achieving creative and artistic endeavours (that others are posting about) and I wasn’t. It was amazing how uplifted I felt when I told myself that I didn’t have to, that surviving was enough at the moment. It was my thoughts that were dragging me down, not the ‘not doing anything’. You always inspire. Take care.

    • Thank you Lorrie. I’m opening to the sweetness of the cocoon or chrysalis , where everything is realigned and a new way of being in the world begins to unfold. Don’t go back to old beliefs. Let them go. Embrace new insights and wisdom that unfolds beyond the old fears. Let the next stage take root and grow. Just one seed into a new way of being.
      Be well.
Be aware and kind in this time of unfolding 🙏
This is where the future lies.

  11. Yes, it is important we learn to breathe properly – I do some yoga exercise in the morning before I am off to work and one of the key things I do once done is do some deep breathing exercise, nothing more, nothing less. You will be surprised to see how many people don’t do proper breathing in, breathing out and then get so tensed up.
