“You are a Human Being.  These two words not only describe who you are as a member of a particular species but, if examined more deeply, also point to the twofold nature of your identity.  Human is who you are on the level of form; that is to say, your body and mind.  Those two aspects of your form identity make up your conditioned self.  That self is conditioned by genetics and the environment, as well as other factors as yet unknown to science.

Being, on the other hand, points to the essence of who you are as timeless, formless, and unconditioned consciousness.

Human and Being, form and essence, are ultimately not separate, in the same way that a wave or ripple on the surface of the ocean is not separate from the ocean or from any other wave or ripple, although it may appear to be so.”

~ Eckhart Tolle

I’m feeling very Human right now as I get ready for a vacation in Scotland and with my Mum on a river cruise in the Netherlands. Lots of distractions in getting ready and anticipating the days ahead. There is also the conditioning of genetics, culture, familial roles and the environment that pulls me away from the contentment of Being.

Over the next couple of weeks I will be sharing my favorite posts to inspire us all in our Being and to Find our Middle Ground.

  4. Right on point … and at times when your “human” and your “being” are in disagreement or rather out of alignment, it can be quite the challenge. It sounds like the perfect time for a vacation, and your vacation sounds lovely, enjoy it.

  10. A great post to introduce your plans. I believe Ram Dass reminds us that if we think we are enlightened, we should spend a week with family. I wish you well, dear Val. May your breath and the beauty of nature be your closest companions as you travel during this period. 🙏🏻💕

  12. How exciting to be planning for travel. I relate to the slipping away from being into thinking overload when I am planning a packing. I hope your journey is full of many moments of awe.

  13. Carrie beat me to the Ram Dass quote. GMTA 😉 Wishing you a great vacation, Val, deep breaths and a quiet space for yoga. Have you ever thought of teaching yoga on a cruise or at a resort? Now that’s one way to travel gratis! 🙂

  14. I can relate, Val, as I’m spending some “togetherness” time with my parents right now. How easily I fall into roles and to-do lists. Tomorrow would be a good day to practice being. 🙂 Enjoy your trip. It sounds like a wonderful opportunity!

The way Eckart Tolle is conveying his messages is magical.
It´s like his words bypass the mind and go straight to the higher levels of comprehending.
    Even in german.

If I hadn´t find him, I´d probably be very lost today.

Where did you find this quote? 🙂

Thanks for the post & have an amazing trip!

  18. Thank you for this reminder – it’s so easy to think the human side is all we are – it’s a trick of the mind to think that way. Have a great trip!
