find your middle ground

“When you don’t play roles, it means that there is no self (ego) in what you do. There is no secondary agenda: protection or strengthening of your self. As a result your actions have far greater power. You are totally focused on the situation. You become one with it. You don’t try to be anybody in particular. You are most powerful, most effective, when you are completely yourself.”

~ Eckhart Tolle taken from A New Earth

It sounds straightforward enough, but it isn’t easy to become completely ourselves. It requires self inquiry and awareness of our thoughts, beliefs and how we interact with others.

So often, we let others define who we are in life. In our relationships, we take on roles all the time…. the good mother, the caring friend, the perfect daughter, the hard working employee, the life and soul of the party, the trend setter …

We then become attached to this image of how we think we should be, and lose our authentic self along the way.

To reveal our authentic being, we must learn to let go of how we define ourselves in this world. We must learn to pause and really focus on what is happening in that moment, without judgment.

In being present we find our Presence.

  3. When we let go of all attachments and expectations, we see through the roles, veils, and masks that obscure the Spirit within.

When we choose to just be, our authentic presence is revealed.

  4. Oh so very true, both the importance of it, truth in it, and difficulty of it. It’s a continuous process of awareness. Which is a bit of a conundrum in itself, because while working, learning, unlearning and becoming aware of the moment only – that in itself, if not careful, can also become another role you’re playing. The human experience and trying to unlearn all of the misinformation, while relearning who and what we truly are, and are a part of – all that we’ve forgotten or don’t see, is quite the classroom. I love your inspiring and clear, easy to read and absorb, authentic sharing. Thank you. ❤ Kimberly

  5. Yes, I found to be fully myself, I had to accept that not everybody was going to ‘like’ that. Once I accepted that part, it was all downhill and into the home stretch. I’ve never felt better in my life, nor been able to be more present to myself as well as others. ❤

  6. Thank you for this, Val. Being ourselves is one of our greatest challenges! I continue to find more of my true self on my yoga mat. Asana and breathing bring us more deeply into ourselves…where our true heart of being lives. I find that my regular practice makes sustaining this awareness possible. 🙏🏻💕

  8. I love this, thank you. Sometimes it takes many years for people to live their own truth, whatever that may be. Authenticity is something I long for, especially in people. I don’t know why people have to wear masks all the time.
