Prana Flow

~

Let the prana flow.

Embodied presence and breath.

Find your Middle Ground

~

This is a definition of yoga, and what I bring to the mat every day. The intention is to move the life energy through awareness of the breath.  The body doesn’t need to be in motion to do this. At any moment we can guide our attention and our prana.

Where our attention goes, the energy flows.

I bring this to yoga and into my life.

Off the mat, I come back again and again, and bring awareness to where my attention is going. This is where the precious life energy will move towards.

Take a moment and close your eyes. Notice where your energy and thoughts are being drawn to right now. Is this expanding or contracting your energy? Is there a sense of opening or tension? Is this moment enriching or detracting from who you are or want to be?

Most of us don’t really want our energy to flow into our smart phone … mindless distractions … other people’s stories and drama … worrying about the future … holding on to what is past … judging others … being critical of ourselves. Yet it happens a lot.

Awareness is the first step. The next one is your choice.

    • Thank you Jet. The mind gets caught up in analysis and outcomes, especially during times of transition. It’s so important to let our thinking rest and come to each moment as it unfolds 💛🙏💛

    • I’m so glad this resonates with you Helen. When we are transition with one foot ahead and the other behind, we really need to find our center. May you find this balance to support you in the upcoming times. 💕

  8. Val, when we become aware of our thoughts, it is shocking to discover just where are thoughts are centered. It is a practice, constant at that, to bring back the attention to the present NOW and to bring breath to Heart so Energy can rise above. I so get this! This is how I live life! And as for the low-tide thoughts and emotions, those too are needed in order to bring light to that which pricks and burns. As usual, you made me think! Thank you! 👏🏼

      • Haha – no, the last photo was taken by a friend, a professional photographer, years ago. This was one I snapped in the car on a market morning with the dogs – thought it was time to inject some ‘red’ for holiday cheer. Hope you’re enjoying some holiday spirit yourself these days, Val! 😘

  10. Hmmmm…yes!
I couldn’t agree more, Val. Thank you for always being a source of incredible inspiration. I just this past week made a commitment to start my yoga practice again. I know that I have ‘threatened’ this in the past, but this time I understand why I did not follow through in the past. Yes…has something to do with punishment…and the work has begun!!
Sending sweet blessings to you. I am grateful for our connection.
Wish you a very Merry Christmas…

  11. I’ve been down with a cold for a week, so unsure if I should attend my favorite yoga class yesterday. But the teacher said, ‘we can deal with coughs – we don’t get easily distracted’. The miracle was I didn’t cough (or sniffle or sneeze) once in the 75 minutes of breathing and poses. My Prana Flowed! xo
