The optimal place to be is

Oh, that touches a spot. For Jeannie and I were having a wobbly moment thinking about what happens when we can’t look after this house, the animals and the acres. Recognizing the growing uncertainty as months and years go by.

Val Boyko posted this on her blog and I love it. It’s a beautiful reminder that “the optimal place to be is where one already is”. If we are mindful we can seek out the little things that we already have and explore any discomfort we feel, finding “the courage to be with no solid footing.”

I wish I’d understood this in my youth. I was always on the run, embracing change, new starts in new places, thinking there was the perfect location out there for us somewhere yet to be discovered. The real contentment came when I realized the only special place was the one in which we currently found ourselves. No matter where that was. Thanks, Val.
