Inspiration – The Work of our Lives

unconditional love

“Our job is to love others without stopping to inquire whether or not they are worthy. That is not our business and, in fact, it is nobody’s business. What we are asked to do is to love, and this love itself will render both ourselves and our neighbors worthy.”

~ Thomas Merton

Imagine if we could set aside judgment and fear, and we all found our way to love others, and ourselves, unconditionally.

Bring it on.

Make it a practice.

This is the work of our lives.

  8. There is far too much judgement, as in prejudice, in this world, and unfounded fear is a huge part of that. Imagine all the strife would be eliminated if only we could all practice more tolerance and understanding.

  14. I hadn’t heard of Thomas Merton until I read about him in Jon Katz’s books. Thanks for sharing this, as I think his voice really speaks to us right now!

  15. Thomas Merton knows what he’s talking about. I fully agree and as time goes on it gets easier and easier to do that. It’s a learning and understanding process.

  16. I think fear is a core emotion and one that, at times, can protect us. But judging others, being judgmental, is so harmful: to ourself.

    Great post, Val.
