Living a soulful life in the moment

Too often we blunder through life like automatic robots, waking up to our morning coffees then soldiering on to work, only to return home again to follow the same ritual in the morning once again. Are we really spending time doing things that mean something to us, being present with the people who matter, connected to the richness of life?

Philosopher and writer Alan Watts asks the perennial questions about the meaning of life, taking us on a moving and thought provoking journey that will make you think more deeply about how and who you spend your time with.

A soulful look at living a life that’s alive and full.

  1. “The whole point of dancing is the dance” – AW. That reminded me of a lovely section from Eliot’s Four Quartets, so with your permission, Val:

  6. Yes! As I see it, happiness is the goal behind all goals.

If we convince ourselves that reaching a set destination is a pre-requisite to happiness, we are apt to be disappointed since the rewards we envision, if they materialize at all, often feel less like rewards and more like dead ends.

Moreover, when we are too intent on reaching a set destination, we may become frustrated, impatient, and discouraged if our goal, like the proverbial grapes, remains “out of reach.”

Happiness is not waiting for us at the end of the road ~ it’s found here and now, by enjoying each step along the way! If we’re enjoying the journey, we win . . . no matter what happens.

Now and then it’s good to pause in our pursuit of happiness and just be happy.

  9. Can’t resist Dylan’s words, Val, which speak in to this – Hey Mister Tambourine man – play a song for me – I’m not sleepy – and there’s no place I’m going to.
