ebb and flow
ebb and flow by mike dawson

In nature there is a natural rhythm where everything pulses with energy.

We forget that we are a part of nature, not apart from it.

Take time to notice the ever present ebb and flow of the heart, breath, digestion, sleep and waking, wounding and healing, birth and death.

Everything comes and goes in the never-ending flow within all of us.

This reminds me of a favorite quote from Rumi:

letting go

“Your hand opens and closes, opens and closes. If it were always a fist or always stretched open, you would be paralysed. Your deepest presence is in every small contracting and expanding, the two as beautifully balanced and coordinated as birds’ wings.”

Let go of holding and go with nature’s flow.

  2. Ah! That truly is half of all of life’s lessons, isn’t it Val? Just a few moments ago I saw the man who got caught in the tarp while covering a baseball field. It reminded me of when I jumped out of an airplane and landed so beautifully, better than I had practiced, only for my chute to get caught in wind on the ground and it dragged me face down across a field until the helpers on the ground jumped on it and stopped it. It brought back very strong memories of that moment that I surrendered…after fighting to stop the chute relentlessly…I stopped and became a rag doll bouncing along dirt, grass, and stones. All of these things combined with your post to remind me of this flow…this natural beautiful flow, and I pray for the guidance to know when to be still and when to be active. Thanks, Val. You touched my heart this morning! ❤

  3. In the ebb
    and flow
    I find myself
    attuned
    to nature’s calling
    me
    to let go
    and hold on
    to nothing.

  5. Hi Val, lovely post. I don’t know, though, that I can include myself in the ‘we’ that forget we are a part of nature. It is crucially fundamental to my existence.

  8. of children being close and moving away to explore independence. 🙂 The lovely thing with your post is that we can all take away what we need. I’ve got a 16 year old boy that is on the stretching phase right now, and so this helped, I am taking away what I need today – thank you.
