happiness is

“My life has no purpose, no direction no aim, no meaning and yet I’m happy. I can’t figure it out. What am I doing right?”

Charles Schultz, creator of Peanuts cartoon

Sometimes its good to let go of trying to figure things out!

Simply keep loving.

  4. Yes! Happiness surfaces without effort when we return our attention to the present moment. Happiness resides in the calm stillness that lies beyond all labels. In the timeless present, we don’t need a reason to be happy . . . we just are.

  5. Another thought:

There is happiness for “a reason” (e.g., a new pair of shoes, or the applause, accolades, and approval of others) and happiness for “no reason” (a natural state of being which we can access Here and Now, without effort, when we return our attention to the present moment).

Once we learn how to access the latter, we have no need of the former.

Thanks for a thoughtful post, Val.

  6. Yes indeed Nancy. 🙂 The former comes from something external (what the sages would call pleasure) the latter is an inner state (that the sages call joy).
Thank you for adding this golden nugget!

  11. When I’m feeling impatient, I’ve stopped “looking for patience” and instead stop and “find the love”. Great post!

  12. Lovely quote from Schultz 🙂 No matter what our goals or aspirations we musn’t let them distract us from the fact that happiness is to be found right here and now, with or without them.
The quote is so full of meaning yet has a quiet humour, so common in his work, it brought a smile to my face, thanks Val 🙂

  15. Hi Val, just realized this post didn’t come through to me, as has some others I follow. Might have to go technical and use the reader instead 🙂
Great post by the way, I think it’s something like just ‘going with the flow’ does the trick. Now if I can just stop trying to swim upstream I’ll be all right 🙂

    • Good to have you here again Mark. I love the stream analogy! 🙂 For me, the most important moment was when I realized I was still clinging to my life vest but I thought I was a swimming freely!
